The mail service in the United States is generally safe to use. However, at very minimum use Priority Mail server (Do NOT use Media Mail or Parcel Post for anything you expect to be delivered within the next week. It CAN take a month or more). They offer tracking services inexpensively as well. It is a good idea to take advantage of the extra security. 
 
bullet Place photos between two pieces of cardboard  or similar protection. The cardboard should be a bit larger than the largest photo.  We also recommend first placing the photo inside a zip-lock style bag to avoid scratches and dust.
 
bullet Use a padded envelope or special "Photo Mailer" package for best protection.
bullet Shipping containers should be marked "Do not bend" on both sides. If you fill out a customs form, it should be marked "photos" no value.
